Tulsi Chai (Holy Basil Tea)

Tulsi Chai (Holy Basil Tea)

Tulsi chai is soothing, aromatic, and deeply rooted in wellness traditions. Tulsi, or holy basil, has a naturally peppery, herbal flavor that pairs beautifully with black tea and gentle spices. This chai is often enjoyed for relaxation and balance.

Ingredients (2 mugs):

  • 1 ½ cups water

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 tsp black tea leaves (optional for caffeine-free version)

  • 8–10 fresh tulsi leaves (or 1 tsp dried tulsi)

  • 1-inch ginger, sliced

  • 2 cardamom pods

  • Sweetener to taste

Method:

  1. Simmer tulsi & ginger: Add water, tulsi, ginger, and cardamom to a saucepan. Simmer 5 minutes.

  2. Add tea: Add black tea and simmer 1–2 minutes (skip if herbal-only).

  3. Add milk: Add milk and sweetener, bring to a gentle boil.

  4. Strain & serve: Strain and enjoy warm.

Flavor notes & tips:

  • Tulsi has a strong aroma; don’t over-simmer.

  • Works beautifully with honey.

  • For a calming evening drink, skip black tea entirely.
